The plane’s central aisle suddenly became a sort of makeshift scenario. Looking back, it’s amazing how routine can break in the most unexpected way. We usually get on the planes thinking only about the destination, the bags, the queues of the airport and the accumulated fatigue. We locked ourselves in our own bubbles with screens and eyes closed. However, situations like this remind us that the best stories happen when we least expect it and in the most unusual places, reminding us of the beauty of connecting with others, even thousands of meters above the ground.
When the plane finally made landfall and the wheels squeaked on the runway, the overall feeling was of absolute complicity. Upon landing, people were no longer moving forward in the usual rush to run out to the baggage claim zone. There were shared smiles, cheerful comments among strangers who now shared a common memory and a lightness in the atmosphere that is rarely experienced after a long journey. Definitely, no one got off that aircraft being exactly the same one that went up.
