What was supposed to be a joyful summer afternoon with family ended in heartbreak when violence erupted at Seattle’s Bite of Seattle festival on Sunday, July 26.
Ashley Whitehead, 56, was among those caught in the mass shooting that turned a family outing into a devastating tragedy. She had been enjoying the festival with her daughter, Zoie, and her future son-in-law, Ben, when gunfire suddenly shattered the atmosphere.
According to the family’s account, Ashley had been waiting in line for cotton candy when the shooting began. In an instant, an ordinary moment of family fun became a terrifying struggle for survival.
Ashley was seriously wounded in the attack.
Despite her injuries, she remained conscious long enough to share an emotional final moment with her eldest daughter. The two exchanged heartfelt words of love before Ashley was taken for emergency treatment.
Her family held onto hope as doctors worked to save her life.
Sadly, Ashley died during surgery.
She was only 56.
