Gina Ferrall, a seasoned actress whose career illuminated Broadway stages for decades in shows like Mamma Mia!, Big River, and the celebrated revival of Leopoldstadt, has passed away after a short fight with uterine sarcoma. She was 67 years old.
The tragic news was announced by her husband, Broadway drummer and percussionist Kory Grossman, who confirmed her death to Playbill.
For theater enthusiasts, Ferrall’s name represented commitment, skill, and adaptability. Over a career that lasted more than thirty years, she brought memorable characters to life on some of Broadway’s most prominent stages, earning the respect of both peers and audiences.
Ferrall hailed from a family with a strong connection to the performing arts. Her mother, Marrian Walters, was an actress, and her father, Mike, was a director.
Born in San Francisco on September 6, 1958, Ferrall made her Broadway debut in Les Misérables as a replacement cast member. This opportunity set the stage for an impressive career that included appearances in beloved productions such as Beauty and the Beast, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and The Sound of Music during the 1990s.
Her achievements carried on into the 2000s with performances in Jane Eyre, Mamma Mia!, Big River, It Shoulda Been You, and She Loves Me, further solidifying her status as a respected and dependable figure in the theater community.Family
One of Ferrall’s latest Broadway roles was in Tom Stoppard’s acclaimed Leopoldstadt in 2022. In this poignant drama, she played Poldi, the loyal servant of a wealthy Jewish family whose lives are torn apart by the rise of Nazi oppression during the Holocaust.
