Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Deal With Oman Is Near
Iran says it is in the final stages of reaching an agreement with Oman on a plan to reopen and manage shipping through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, raising hopes that one of the world’s most important energy corridors could soon return to more normal operations.
According to Iranian officials, negotiators have agreed on the route that ships would use through the strait and are finalizing the remaining technical details. However, Tehran says implementation still depends on the United States easing its naval blockade of Iranian ports, making Washington’s position central to any final deal.
The proposed arrangement would reportedly have inbound vessels use a route overseen by Iran while outbound traffic would follow a route managed by Oman. The plan is intended to restore commercial shipping after months of disruption caused by regional conflict.
